Night Symphony: Listening to the Nocturnal World, a Nocturnalia Guided Walk

November 1, 2023 | 6:00 pm 8:30 pm

Learn the secrets of nocturnal ecosystems on this guided walk with nighttime naturalists and co-authors of Nocturnalia.

November 1st 6-8:30 PM
Lake Anza Rd Berkeley, CA 94708

On this experiential evening walk with nighttime naturalists José Gabriel Martínez-Fonesca and Charles Hood, we will learn how to see the night with our ears, employing all of our human senses to apprehend the world. With the help of bat detectors and infrared technology, we will also learn how to read soundwaves and record our environmental observations, extending our senses into the night environment in a deeper way.

This walk is in collaboration with our partner, Wild Awake. Tickets to this event include Hood & Martinez-Fonesca’s recently published book, Nocturnalia: Nature in the Western Night. Nocturnalia offers practical tips for the budding nighttime naturalist and features over 100 photographs from California and the American Southwest, from the astronomical canopy overhead, to the flora that unfurl under moonshine, to the creatures that go bump in the night.
