Josie Iselin’s Journey into the Science of Seaweed

June 16, 2022 | 6:00 pm 8:00 pm

Join Josie Iselin in a fascinating discussion followed by a wine reception with a book sale and signing. Josie has been using her flatbed scanner to create portraits of this remarkable flora for almost fifteen years, and her art explorations have taken her deep into the natural history and the history of the science of the marine algae (seaweed and kelp). Her work, which can be found in her book The Curious World of Seaweed, makes us appreciate in awe these dynamic and spectacular organisms of the ocean world or found flung up on a local beach or in the tide pools.

Presented by Marin Art and Garden Center, this Josie will explain the complex life cycle of bull kelp, why seaweeds are the vibrant colors they are, and what is the current situation with the kelp forests of Marin County and the Northern California Coast.
