Great Valley Books

Mission

Great Valley Books is an imprint of Heyday Books. Titles in the Great Valley series strive to inform, promote, and develop a deeper appreciation of various aspects of the region’s unique history and culture.

Description

The Central Valley is a region that holds over ten percent of the state's total population (3 million) that is dramatically diverse in its origins. The Valley boasts remarkably high constituents of Asians and Latinos, as well as large African American, Tahitian, Indian, Native American, Middle Eastern, Basque, Sikh, Portuguese, Armenian, Hindi, and Caribbean communities, many of whom are part of the state's leading agricultural and often migrant workforce.

The challenges of a growing population are many: creating modern, livable communities; sustaining agricultural production; preserving natural resources; and fostering the vibrant arts and culture that thrive amongst people naturally. The growth of this region, as well as recognition of its natural, cultural, and historical significance, needs to be addressed in a profound and serious way.

Currently, no other publisher has focused on the substantial changes and cultural richness of the Valley. We anticipate that Great Valley Books will become a major asset to helping writers, scholars, and artists produce the highest level of work, as well as introducing the complexity and history of the Valley to a broader population.
