Yoshiko Uchida was born in California in 1922 to Japanese American parents. During World War II, she and her family were sent to the Topaz internment camp. Journey to Topaz is one of her many celebrated young adult books, among them Picture Bride and Journey Home, that explore themes of the internment and Japanese culture. |
