Announcements

Upcoming Conference

The Year 2001 California Area Regional Diabetes Conference, Creating a New Path for Future Generations, has been planned for June 5-7, 2001. The three-day diabetes conference will be held at the US Grant Hotel, located in downtown San Diego, California. Modeled after the highly successful Regional Diabetes Conference that was held last year, in Folsom, California, general sessions and afternoon workshops will be coordinated to offer community health representatives, community members, diabetes coordinators, and medical providers opportunities for skill building.

There will be morning plenary sessions with key-note speakers from various national agencies and organizations, including the Indian Health Service National Diabetes Program, National Institutes of Health, University of California Los Angeles, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The afternoon workshops are designed to offer an interactive experience in skill building on various topics that include: (1) health promotion; (2) type 2 diabetes and youth; (3) community based projects; and (4) diabetes updates for community members. The workshops will offer participants "tools" that may be helpful in their efforts to reduce the impact of diabetes within their respective communities

Anyone working in the area of diabetes among American Indians and Alaskan
Natives is encouraged to attend this years California Area Regional Diabetes Conference.
