Edited by Robert Hass and Jessica Fisher
Berkeley is a wellspring of literary and artistic history. As a way of preserving and celebrating that history, the City of Berkeley called on former U.S. poet laureate Robert Hass and award-winning artist David Goines to design a series of poetry panels that have been installed in the sidewalks of Berkeley's thriving downtown arts and theater district. The Berkeley Poetry Walk is a splendid introduction to the history of poetry in the city, with full commentary on each poem by Hass himself. Taken as a whole, this work makes clear the importance, passion, playfulness, and episodic looniness of one of America's most vibrant cities. Published in collaboration with The Addison Street Project (The Berkeley Poetry Walk), City of Berkeley About the Editor Robert Hass is known for his signature voice full of poetic musicality and political progressiveness. Hass writes poetry, criticism, and translations, and served as U.S. Poet Laureate. He lives with his wife, poet Brenda Hillman, in Berkeley. A poet as well as a scholar, Jessica Fisher currently teaches undergraduate English at the University of California, Berkeley, and served as assistant to Czeslaw Milosz from 2000 to 2004. |
